iPod
tops ESPN's list of "Favorite Things of the Year"
Is there anyone out
there who doesn't love the iPod these days? In what could end
up being the biggest case of contagious bandwagoning since wearing
flannel shirts and forgetting to wash ones hair, ESPN is just
the latest in a growing list of entities, most of whom have no
connection with the computer or electronics industries whatsoever,
to lavish praise (and drool) on the iPod. Why a sports television
network would feel compelled to publish a favorites
list
that
has nothing
to do with
sports or television in the first place, that will be left for
readers to ponder.
But for whatever
it is or isn't worth, ESPN's "Favorite Things of the Year" includes
the 40 GB iPod at the top of tech gizmos category:
"Here's the quandary: Drop crazy coin for 10,000-song
capacity or go cheaper for less memory space? If you want to look
as cool as everyone else on the street without paying so much,
go for the 2,500-song, 10 GB model ($299). If you want to download
your entire CD collection on the thing, go big."
So
my question is, who's going to come out of left field and endorse
the iPod next...Al Gore? Oh wait, he's already on Apple's Board
of
Directors
as it
is. Whatever.
If you want to take a took at ESPN's full list, you can find it
here.
On a side note,
ESPN just so happens to be a subsidiary of Disney, so this PROVES,
once and for all, that Disney is buying Apple and Pixar! Or it
could just be that ESPN.com's editor loves his iPod. Readers can
be the judge. ;)
Are you so
overwhelmed by the sheer number of ringing endorsements for the
iPod that you sorta kinda wish someone would come out and
endorse one of the competitors, just so you'd have someone to
curse and hate? Chat it up on the billpalmer.net
discussion boards.
