David Pogue reports that his Missing Manual Panther Edition will be available "in about a week"

by Bill Palmer

Thursday, December 4th, 2003

One could make the case that you're not a real Mac user if you don't have at least one "Missing Manual" book in your collection. That might be a bit judgmental, but most Mac users can find at least one aspect of the Mac experience that they're willing to do their homework on. For me, that's as simple as ordering the Missing Manual for that particular subject. And although reading such texts (generally either written or edited by the New York Times' David Pogue) doesn't feel like homework, you'll walk away feeling like you're about three pegs higher on the authority ladder for that particular subject, regardless of how high or low on that ladder you might have started out.

Whenever a new Mac-related or Apple-related product comes out, the corresponding Missing Manual is never all that far behind. Sometimes, with something as all-encompassing as a whole new operating system, you have to wait a bit. But never fear, David Pogue reports on his own website that the Missing Manual for MacOS X Panther "should be landing at Amazon in about a week." That's good news for Missing Manual junkies such as myself. It's not too often that a computer book can alternately teach you something and make you laugh out loud.

I believe I could recommend this book to any Mac user at any level...that is if it's anything like the other Missing Manuals in my collection. But there's every reason to believe that it will be. Although the book lists at $29.95, you can currently pre-order it from amazon.com for thirty percent off the list price. In my book, that's a steal. To pre-order "MacOS X: The Missing Manual, Panther Edition" from Amazon at the 30% discount, just click here:

I'll be ordering my copy soon. See if you can beat me to it. Oh, and once you receive the book, be sure to share your thoughts about it on the billpalmer.net discussion boards!
