April, May, June...August...

I just spent several minutes staring at my last outbound email of the evening, trying to make sure it looked right, before realizing that for some reason I was claiming that the month directly following June was not July, but instead August. It's late and I'm delirious and I should go to sleep. Heh, perfect time for a blog entry.

You see I thought this was going to be the issue where we'd put a fairly unknown up-and-comer on the cover of iProng Magazine and since we've been trotting out so many famous names lately, just the fact that it's someone people haven't heard of would turn some heads. After all, Tristan Prettyman is the first person we've ever put on the cover who hasn't sold at least a million records. So we decide to put her on this week's cover, and then I checked iTunes on Tuesday and her new album had gone straight to number two on the overall album chart. So much for having someone on the cover the no one has yet heard of. I can't say I'm surprised. I've had an advance of the new album since February, and it's good.

Tonight I did something I haven't done in quite awhile: I went to a concert as a regular concert-goer. Lifehouse was in town (yeah I'm still hiding out in Florida) and since I just interviewed Jason Wade two months ago, it didn't really seem appropriate to try to turn around and interview them again so soon. But I still wanted to take in the concert, so I showed up, bought a ticket, and attended. The whole time I kept thinking do I have my interview questions with me? Oh right, not doing an interview. Did I remember to bring the voice recorder? Duh, not doing an interview. When am I supposed to call the tour manager? What month comes after June? August, right? My brain is melting this week.

Anyway attending a concert and not having any journalistic work to do while I was there was kinda nice for once. And the band was great. Oddly enough it was the first time I'd seen Lifehouse perform since they were in Best Buy, but that's another story. Biggest story of the night: bassist Bryce Soderberg sang lead vocals for all of Bridges. Nailed it too. I had heard this was going on but I didn't realize he was doing the whole song. Come to think of it, I kind of wish I'd done another interview with them just to ask what was going on with this. Oh well, there's always next time.

I'm on a plane to New York in six days for PodCamp NYC (as well as a few other meetings while I'm up there). Hopefully I'll see many of you there.
